LinkedIn 101: What is LinkedIn?
LinkedIn is a social networking site like Facebook and Instagram, but instead of posting pictures of your dinner or status updates, you network with other professionals. According to the LinkedIn home page there are more than 562 million users across 200 countries. It’s important to have a LinkedIn Profile. More and more employers are researching the web presences of prospective candidates and having a LinkedIn profile can demonstrate that you are serious about your career. LinkedIn is also a good way to get in contact with prospective employers, who often contact candidates directly through LinkedIn.
What is a LinkedIn Profile?
Think of a LinkedIn Profile as a sort of online resume. Your profile is located at your personal url. For example my LinkedIn profile is located at https://www.linkedin.com/in/karenwalcottacrw/. Below is a screenshot of the top portion of my profile.
As you can see the very top of your LinkedIn profile will contain your picture, which is optional, your name, current job title, and your contact information. Further down on your profile you will list each company that you worked for and the positions that you held, followed by information about your education, and then your skills and interests.
For the month of September I will be publishing a series of posts, LinkedIn 101, which will walk you through setting up your own profile. Or if you want a professional to take care of writing your LinkedIn profile for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Until next time,
